SUMMARY:Journey through the Galaxy
DESCRIPTION:Our musical journey through space simply has to include these t
wo iconic works.  John Williams drew inspiration from Holst's Mars for
Darth Vader's Imperial March\, so it is only right that the two works b
 e performed together!\n\nJohn Williams - Star Wars Suite\nJohn Williams -
Theme from "Schindler's List"\nViolin:  Nicola Chotrani (Nottingham Young
Musician of the Year 2026)\nGustav Holst - The Planets Suite\nWith the Mi
rabile choir\n\nJohn Williams – Star Wars Suite\nFresh from an Oscar-win
for Jaws (1975)\, John Williams proceeded to compose another Academy Awar
d-winning score for the 1977 film Star Wars.  The music\, created in what
was an old-fashioned Hollywood mould for full symphony orchestra\, elevat
ed the film to an almost operatic level.  His beguiling theme for the bra
ve and strong-willed Princess Leia is one of his very best and reappears i
n the concert version of the Main Theme\, which showcases Luke Skywalker
’s triumphant theme - one of the most famous melodies yet composed. \n\
nJohn Williams - Theme from Schindler's List\nThe exquisite musical score
for Schindler's List won an unprecedented fifth Oscar for composer John Wi
lliams.  Famed violinist Itzhak Perlman performed the solos for the sound
track.\n\nNicola Chotrani - Violin\nWe are delighted to be joined by Nicol
a Chotrani as our soloist.  Nicola is a 17-year-old Singaporean violinist
currently studying the International Baccalaureate (IB) at Oakham School
where she is a music scholar.  She studies the violin under Tamaki Higash
 i.  Since beginning her musical training with the piano with her mother f
rom a young age\, music has surrounded her entire life.\nIn 2026\, Nicola
was awarded the title of Nottingham Young Musician of the Year 2026 and wa
s also a finalist in the Rotary Young Musician Competition. \n\nGustav Ho
lst – The Planets Suite \nIn his preface to The Planets\, Holst advised
that there is no program in the pieces and that the subtitles should be s
ufficient to guide the imagination of the listener.  Holst’s own imagin
ation had been stimulated by many things\, not the least of which was the
great literature of English folk songs\, introduced to him by his life-lon
g friend\, Ralph Vaughan Williams.  Another influence was that of Stravin
sky\, whose music had greatly impressed Holst before he took on the univer
se\, the effects of which in The Planets can be seen in the very large Fir
ebird and Petrushka kind of orchestration\, in insistent rhythms\, and als
o in striding rhythmic shifts.  Mars and Jupiter will require no intro
duction\, but there are 5 further planets to explore through Holst's music
\, which are just as much fun both for players and audience!\n\n\nFor full
