A spectacular programme to celebrate our 40 years which takes in the classical poise of Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and the Russian fire and emotion of Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto. La Valse is Ravel’s portrait of the Viennese Waltz pushed to insane extremes; like his Bolero it is a virtuoso showpiece for orchestra. As is Pictures at an Exhibition, Mussorgsky’s piano masterpiece in Ravel’s famous and much-loved orchestration.
