James MacMillan Veni, Veni, Emmanuel
Beethoven Symphony No. 3 in Eb major, Op. 55 "Eroica"
I - Allegro con brio
II - Marcia Funebre: Adagio assai
III - Scherzo: Allegro vivo
IV - Finale: Allegro molto, Poco Andante, Presto
We open the season with two major works with personal connections. James McMillan’s percussion concerto Veni, Veni, Emmanuel was written for Evelyn Glennie, while Beethoven’s epic Eroica symphony was originally dedicated to Napoleon and the principles of brotherhood and freedom. We complete the programme with two short works by women composers: one from Liverpool and one from Estonia.
While every effort will be made to keep to the advertised programmes, the Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra reserves the right to make unavoidable changes to programmes or soloists advertised on this page.
