Sidney Torch was the first conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra, from its first broadcast in 1954. He composed many works for it, too, and The Hansom Cab is the first movement of his London Transport Suite. (The other movements depict Rosie the Red Omnibus and the 17.22 from Victoria!) This arrangement includes a variety of performers and instruments - including the kitchen sink itself!
