"Gone with the Wind" was filmed in 1939 and released in time for Christmas, and became one of Hollywood's most enduring successes. Max Steiner, who wrote the score, was specially recruited from Warner Brothers to the MGM studios at the request of David Selznick, the producer. The film won a string of Academy Awards in 1940, including Best picture, Best actress, Best supporting actress, Best director, and Best screenplay - though not best original music score!
