Richard Rodgers (1902 - 1979)

Overture "South Pacific"

Richard Rodgers was another New Yorker who studied at the Juilliard School of Music. His first collaborator was Lorenz Hart, and from 1943 Oscar Hammerstein II. They produced many great musical shows including Oklahoma, Carousel, The King and I, South Pacific, and The Sound of Music. South Pacific has many fine songs which appear in this overture, including "Some Enchanted Evening", "Bali Hai", and "There is Nothing like a Dame".
