The music for Disney’s The Little Mermaid, which came out in 1989, is by Alan Menken with Lyrics by Howard Ashman. It won the composer two Oscars: for best original score and best song. The team had found a winning formula, and they went on to further movie and Oscar success over the next few years with Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Pocahontas.
