Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897 - 1957)
Captain Blood

Austrian composer Erich Korngold was born in 1897, and was a child prodigy who impressed Mahler & Strauss, with a published ballet at the age of 13. A major composer and professor of music in Vienna , he moved to USA in 1930s to escape the Nazis. He worked for Warner Brothers in Hollywood , and wrote scores for about 20 films. His most well known were the swashbuckling films which starred Errol Flynn, including The Adventures of Robin Hood. Captain Blood came out in 1935, and was directed by Michael Curtiz, who also directed Casablanca . Korngold died in 1957.
