Denis King (b. 1939)
Theme from "The Adventures of Black Beauty"

The novel Black Beauty is a Victorian animal rights tract. Anna Sewell wrote this “Autobiography of a Horse” in 1877 specifically to highlight the cruelty that many horses suffered, and it has lost none of its power to move. It has been made into several films, most recently in 1994 with a cast including Peter Davison, Sean Bean, and Peter Cook. But the one most people remember is the TV series which ran from 1972 to 1974, with this powerful theme tune by Denis King.
