Maurice Jarre (b. 1924)
Lawrence of Arabia
French composer Maurice Jarre
was the father of the popular electronic composer
Jean-Michel Jarre. He wrote scores for a huge number
of films, some good, some indifferent and some downright
bad. The good ones include four David Lean films,
and for three of them Jarre won his three Oscars -
Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, and A Passage
to India. So he had much to thank David Lean for.
The film stars Peter O'Toole as the enigmatic T.E.Lawrence,
"Lawrence of Arabia", and won 7 Oscars,
including one of David Lean's two (only) as best director.
