Howard Blake (b. 1938)
The Snowman
It is now fifteen years since
the animated version of Raymond Briggs' cartoon classic
was first shown on television, and it has been repeated
virtually every year since. The film has a fine soundtrack
which is wordless, apart from the song 'Walking in
the Air'. However, the composer, recognising the potential
for concert performance, wrote a narration to accompany
the music, which explains the story with considerable
wit and charm.
