Albert Hall, Nottingham
Welcome to the Nottingham Philharmonic 2015-16 season!
Music Director: Mark Heron
Leader: Clare Bhabra
Jazz and dance form the inspiration for our next concert of upbeat music, with the emphasis on fun! Our March concert features American composers of the jazz age: George Gerswin's Cuban Overture and Leonard Bernstein's Three Dance Episodes from his 1944 musical “On the Town” and the blisteringly fast overture to his 1956 operetta Candide. We'll also be playing “Slaughter on Tenth Avenue” by Richard Rodgers from the the Rodgers and Hart musical "On Your Toes" and Samuel Barber's Symphony No. 1. We'll finish off the concert with English composer Richard Rodney Bennett's tumpet concerto: part modern, part jazz, its slow movement is a dreamy and wistful elegy for Miles Davis, the great jazz trumpeter and composer.
We close the season in June in the beautiful setting of Southwell Minster with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade Suite and Dvorak's Symphony No. 8. Please click here for ticket details. We look forward to seeing you at our concerts!
